Learn the different game ratings. Some video games are not meant for children and are not kid-friendly. In the United States and Canada, game ratings range from Early Childhood (EC) to the rarely-used Adults Only (AO). Other countries have different systems. If your game purchase is for another person, especially a minor, be sure that the game's content is suitable for that person.

Turn up the brightness of the screen. Games set in dark interiors may be entertaining, but they can be harder to play. The bad guys can sneak up on you more easily if the picture is dark and the colors are muted. The quality of the video doesn't matter if you can't play right! Turn the brightness up. Turning the brightness up will allow you to see colors better which will result in better gameplay.

Ask employees of your local gaming store for suggestions. Most people have genres that they find appealing, yet are not aware of the newest offerings. You will even be able to try new games in certain stores.

You should let your children play on a console instead of a computer. You will be able to control privacy and the content your children are exposed to more easily with a console. Kids can be protected more easily on console systems.

Many online games use a "free-to-play" or "freemium" model, in which players can work hard to earn rewards or buy upgrades at a "cash shop" using real money. You should carefully consider the benefits that will be derived. They also give you some enjoyment in your video game playing. On the other hand, they can save you some valuable time!

Ask the game store employee for recommendations on games that you might like. If you are like most, you have a few favorite genres, but you might not be aware of the newest titles. Just ask an employee when you call or enter the store and they will surely help you find something you like.

Play video games you enjoy with your kids. A lot of chil
