May 2014Gardening may seem very involved and confusing, but if you put in a little study and a lot of practice, you will soon know your way around. These tips will almost certainly give you the information you need to upgrade your gardening strategies and improve as a gardener.
Learn the proper way to lay sod. Before laying sod, you have to make sure the soil is accurately prepared. Pull any weeds and break up any clods of soil. Flatten your soil and make it slightly compact. Be sure the soil is thoroughly moist. Be sure to stagger the rows of sod. The joints should be offset like bricks in a wall. Firm sod until there is an even, flat surface; fill in gaps with soil. The sod needs to be watered daily for two weeks, by which time it will be rooted and ready to walk on.
Try planting seeds in pots, and then transferring the seedlings to your garden. They are then more likely to survive and to become thriving, mature plants. Seeds can't always thrive in gardens, and are often eaten by birds. The seedlings are ready to go, once you remove the mature plants.
It is important to do your homework so you choose plants that produce higher yields. If yield is important, choose hybrids designed to resist cold and diseases rather than traditional varieties.
Prepare your seeds by soaking them in a dark environment. Put some seeds in a container and fill the container to the brim with water. The water will hydrate the sends, giving them a head start once you plant them. The seeds will then have a greater chance at lasting and blossoming.
While working in your garden during the fall season, watch out for those stink bugs! Stinkbugs are most prevalent on tomatoes, beans and peppers. If left unattended, your garden could be ravaged by these bugs, so you need to proactively keep their population under control.
Create your own garden from scratch with seeds, rather than plants. Starting from seed is far less harsh on the environment than using plants you buy at the nursery. P
